| Full News Story: The X-chip is finally available from Easybuy 2000. Easybuy2000 recently released a solid next generation Xbox modchip; the X-chip. The x-chip has the features that one expects from a modern day xbox modchip including 4MB of flash memory, and a USB programmer. An optional solderless adapter is also available, meaning that xbox modders using the X-chip can install this mod without risking the life of their xbox system (the solderles adapter is compatible with xbox versions 1.0 to 1.5). The owner of Easybuy2000 was kind enough to send me a demo of the X-chip, and I must say that it is a quality product. The chip arrived well packaged and secure, which is a consideration when buying modchips (some vendors ship chips without any packaging or protective plastic). Installation of the X-chip was a snap with the optional solderless adapter. The X-chip adapter looks almost identical to the solderless adpaters on competitor chips such as the Xenium and SmartXX, and although I didn't try it, I feel like there is a good chance the adapters for all of these chips may even be compatible with one another. After installation, flashing the chip through the USB interface with the "X-control" software was very simple and straightforward thanks to superior documentation for the X-chip. I would say that above all else, the X-chips documentation is really where it is superior to its competition. On Easybuy's website there are links to good docs with installation instructions and flashing help, as well as a software manual. Easybuy2000 is not exactly a new kid on the block when it comes to Xbox modchips. Almost two years ago, Easybuy2000 was the first company in the world to offer Xbox modders a totally solderless modchip, named the "Matrix" mod. The matrix xbox modchip was a hugely popular and successful xbox modchip. It really took Xbox hacking to the next level by allowing people with absolutely no soldering experience (or without an inclination to learn how to solder thier precious xbox) the opportunity to install a mod without endangering their system. As I recall, the Matrix modchip was also the first xbox mod to ship without a pre-programmed hacked bios (such as evolutionX), which set a precedent in the industry. The matrix mod chip was designed in collaboration with the Xodus team (which is now responsible for the cutting edge Xenium modchip), and for a very long time the matrix was was sold only through Easybuy2000. Today, with the introduction of the X-chip, I can still feel the influence of team Xodus on the X-chip design, which is a good thing. Easybuy2000 has had some problems with production issues, but those problems appear to be resolved, and the X-chip is a testament to the company's quality. In conclusion, the X-chip is a solid alternative to comparable chips such as the Xenium or X-bit. Because of the documentation and software resources available on Easybuy2000's website, I would actually recommend the X-chip to aspiring xbox hackers who feel they may require a little more straightforward installation and support than they may find with the Xenium or X-bit because it looks like Easybuy2000 has spent considerable effort improving support for X-chip buyers. |
