| Full News Story: The history of the video game industry tells us that all video game systems eventually get hacked. It’s a fact. I challenge you to think of a recent video game system that has not been hacked. The Xbox 360 will be hacked also. An Xbox 360 hack is inevitable. The big question about hacking the Xbox 360 is when will the hack hit the street? The original Xbox was hacked fast. The first Xbox modchips were available within six months of the Xbox retail release. A modchip for the Xbox 360 could come even faster. There is a huge Xbox hacking community, and the public interest in an Xbox 360 mod chip is overwhelming. So, what type of hack will exploit the Xbox 360’s security? Will we see an actual Xbox 360 modchip? Or will the Xbox 360 mod chip really be some sort of device that is unlike any mod chip we have ever seen before? Nobody can say for sure, just yet. One thing that can be said is that the Xbox 360 security will be strong. Microsoft doesn’t want people buying Xbox 360 modchips anytime soon. Microsoft claimed publicly that its new Xbox 360 is designed to be unhackable. Chris Satchell from Microsoft’s Xbox Security Group told the BBC that the Xbox 360 was designed from the ground-up to be as secure as possible. "One of the reasons we went with custom hardware design for all our silicon is that it allows us to build security at the silicon level," he said. "There are going to be levels of security in this box that the hacker community has never seen before," but he admitted that "I'm sure sooner or later someone will work out how to circumvent security. But the way we have done the design doesn't mean that it will work on somebody else's machine." Ultimately, Mr. Satchell is correct. Sooner or later there will be an Xbox 360 modchip / hack. The smart money is on sooner. Why is that? Because at least one xbox 360 modchip developer has already obtained an Xbox 360 developer kit. SmartXX somehow managed to get its hands on one of these rare pre-release Xbox 360’s, and the SmartXX hacking team is presumably hard at work at an Xbox 360 modchip / hack solution. There are other prominent Xbox hacking teams that also have a keen interest in developing a modchip for the Xbox 360; Xecuter, Xodus, DMS, etc. If they haven’t already started, these Xbox modchip manufacturers will be hacking away the day the Xbox 360 is released. I can’t wait to buy my Xbox 360. And of course, I can’t wait to buy my Xbox 360 modchip. |
